Originally conceived as part of the Madvillainy 2 project, Madvillainy: The Madlib Remixes sees producer Madlib completely reconstruct the legendary Madvillainy album using alternate beats, rare instrumentals, and fresh arrangements while preserving the unmistakable lyrical brilliance of MF DOOM.
Rather than a traditional remix album, Madlib describes the project as a complete reimagining created for personal listening sessions before eventually being released to the public. The result is an entirely different sonic experience that offers longtime fans a new way to appreciate one of the most influential hip-hop records ever made.
The Picture Sleeve Edition presents the album across two LPs with full-color artwork designed by Jeff Jank, transforming what was originally a white-label release into a premium collector's edition. The original 2012 release also included a 12-page mini-comic ("Meanwhile...") continuing the story from the iconic All Caps music video, while later reissues retain the picture sleeve but omit the comic.
