The 1999 English Base Set of Pokémon cards changed the trading card game (TCG) landscape forever. The hobby-altering Wizards of the Coast release was the first English Pokémon set produced and helped introduce the franchise to millions of new fans.

More than two decades later it remains the set for many collectors. Cards from the 1999 English Base Set are a lynchpin of any vintage Pokémon card conversation.

Note: the 1999 English Base Set is MUCH more than the iconic Charizard card. An explosion in popularity and demand resulted in four versions of the set being printed. Knowing how to spot the differences between them is crucial when trying to catch (or buy) them all.
